I lay before the House of Representatives a copy of a "convention for
the settlement of claims between the United States of America and Her Catholic Majesty," concluded on the 17th of February last. This convention has been ratified by me, agreeably to the Constitution, and will be immediately transmitted to Madrid, where it will doubtless be ratified by Her Majesty. It is deemed proper to communicate the convention thus early, that provision may be made for carrying the first article into effect as soon as the ratifications shall have been exchanged, in order that our citizens may with as little delay as possible obtain the stipulated compensation. ANDREW JACKSON. WASHINGTON, _May 28, 1834_. _To the Senate of the United States_: I transmit herewith to the Senate, for their advice and consent as to the ratification of the same, a treaty and a supplement thereto, concluded between John H. Eaton, a commissioner on the part of the United States, and a delegation from the Chickasaw tribe of Indians, together with the journal of proceedings. ANDREW JACKSON. |
