DIALOGUE BETWEEN GLUTTON AND ECHO. The following lines, written in the year 1609, are said to have induced Butler to pursue the same idea in his _Hudibras_; _Dialogue_. _Glutton_.--My belly I do deify. _Echo_.--Fie. _Glutton_.--Who curbs his appetite's a fool. _Echo_.--Ah! fool! _Glutton_.--I do not like this abstinence. _Echo_.--Hence! _Glutton_.--My joy's a feast, my wish is wine. _Echo_.--Swine. _Glutton_.--We epicures are happy truly. _Echo_.--You lie. |
