October, 1877, I have the honor to transmit herewith a statement of
the appropriations and expenditures by the Navy Department from the 4th of March, 1789, to June 30, 1876. A similar statement for the War Department is being prepared as rapidly as the limited clerical force in the Treasury Department will permit, and when completed will be transmitted to the Senate.
