* * * * * "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR." _On a very bad book: from the Latin of Melancthon_. A thousand blots would never cure this stuff; One might, I own, if it were large enough. RUFUS. * * * * * _Close Translation._--The following is a remarkable instance; for it is impossible to say which is the original and which the translation, they are so nearly equivalent:-- "Boys and girls, come out to play; The moon doth shine as bright as day; Come with a whoop, come with a call, Come with a good will, or come not at all." {423} "Garçons et filles, venez toujours; La lune fait clarté comme le jour; Venez au bruit d'un joyeux éclat; Venez de bon coeur, ou ne venez pas."
