_Jan_. The debts of the church decreed to be national.
The King refuses to sanction the above decrees
respecting the clergy, but is at length forced to
it by threats and terror.
4. The clergy in the national assembly refuse to comply
with the foregoing decree, and in consequence of
their refusal a law passes that their benefices
shall be filled by such of the clergy as will take
the oaths of allegiance to the state.
