âOh, you George Washington!â choked Eph Somers. âWell, I didnât,â insisted Jack. âNow, just stop and think. Werenât we all three discussing hazing?â âYes.â âThen that part of what I told the officer was straight. Now, Eph, when we saw that first cadet come along, didnât I suggest to you to ask him about hazing?â âYe-es,â admitted Somers, thoughtfully. âThen, didnât the cadet midshipmen offer to show us all about hazing pranks, and didnât they do it?â âWell, rather,â muttered Eph. âNow, young man, thatâs all I told the officer, except that we enjoyed our entertainment greatly.â â_Did_ we enjoy it, though?â demanded Eph Somers, bridling up. âI did,â replied Jack, âand I spoke for myself. I enjoyed it as I would enjoy almost any new experience.â âSo did I,â added Hal, warmly. âIt was roughâmighty roughâbut now I know what an Annapolis hazing is like, and Iâm glad I do.â |
