dress and bonnet! Oh, what shall I do?â âHa, I wonder if that can be a fairy?â said Grandpa. âNo, Iâm not a fairy,â went on the voice. âIâm Nellie Chip-Chip, the sparrow girl, and I havenât any umbrella.â âOh, ho!â exclaimed Grandpa Croaker as he saw Nellie huddled up under a big leaf, âwhy do you come out without an umbrella when it may rain at any moment? Why do you do it?â âOh, I came out to-day to gather some nice wild flowers for my teacher,â said Nellie. âSee, I found some lovely white ones, like stars,â and she held them out so Grandpa could smell them. But he couldnât without hopping over closer to where the little sparrow girl was. âI was so interested in the flowers that I forgot all about bringing an umbrella,â went on Nellie, and then she began to cry, for she had on a new blue hat and dress, and didnât want them to get spoiled by the rain that was splashing all over. âOh, donât cry!â begged Grandpa. âBut I canât get home without an umbrella,â wailed Nellie. âOh, I can soon fix that,â said the old gentleman goatâI mean frog. âSee, over there is a nice big toadstool.
