detective. "You'd better let the fellow go, Mallory."

"Because it is the easiest way to handle it. Keep the tools, though."

"Well, there is no use in discussing it. We won't prefer charges."

"But the man was caught in the act."

"He didn't get any thing, poor devil. No; we're after bigger game than
