COMPOSITION OF THE PETROLEUM OF THE CAUCASUS. By MM. P SCHUTZENBERGER and N. TONINE. All portions of this petroleum contain saturated carbides of the formula C_nH_{2n}, which the authors name paraffenes. At a bright red heat they yield benzinic carbides, C_nH_{2n-6}, naphthalin and a little anthracen. At dull redness the products are along with unaltered paraffenes, products which unite energetically with bromine, and which are converted into resinous polymers of ordinary sulphuric acid. It is difficult to isolate, by means of fractional distillation, definite products with constant boiling points. * * * * * NOTES ON CANANGA OIL OR ILANG-ILANG OIL.
