THE SUFFIX "-AN-". 145. The suffix "-an-" is used to form words indicating an inhabitant or resident of the place denoted by the root, or a member or adherent of the party, organization, etc., denoted by the root. The suffix "-an-" may itself be used as a root, forming "ano", member, etc. bostonano = Bostonian. domano = inmate of a house. kamparano = countryman, peasant. vilagxano = villager. [Footnote: Cf.
